Frank Carver of MakeVideo says:
Essentially, I'm thinking along the lines of:
step 1: provide a very simple input form for people to submit an
entry, consisting of some sort of user name, one or more media URLs
(typically for different formats or sizes etc.) a comment box, an
optional blog entry permalink and an optional thumbnail url. store
these entries in a database of some sort.
agreed. we should add more fields in the comment area to be specific what info a vlogger should provide (jay)
Is it possible for this form to be in the main post so that people can keep adding to the front page rather than the comments. The comments could be used for comments then, or disabled so that viewers have to go to the publishers original post to comment. I know the original idea was to have all the Semanal users as blog members/contrubuters who wrote their own posts (but it's too hard to keep up with as new users are joining everyday i suppose). (Krystian)
step 2: provide a page with a checklist of the users who have
provided entries - when the checklist is submitted show a table (for
example with users down the page and links to entries across the page)
can you explain more? not sure I follow. you want to have a page that gives you a bird's eye view f the whole project? is this possible with WP (jay)
step 3: provide a page with a checklist of the weeks for which people
have provided entries - when the checklist is submitted show a table (for
example with users down the page and links to entries across the page)
hmm...dont know if we want to show when people are "missing". maybe this is more of an end of the year stats thing? (jay)
step 4: provide a page which displays an entry in a player of some
sort, and has navigation buttons for the next entry by the same user,
and the next user for this entry.
I was thinking more of a Widget. but would this be possible in WP? i love how we're imagining making Wp do things it usually doenst do. (Jay)
step 5: provide a way for a user to register a feed instead of needing
to manually supply the details, and a fetcher thread to grab feed
entries.
i like that people must manually do it. I worry that some kinds of people will use the project for promotion spam. like they do a video ever week anyway that has nothing to do with a group project. I want people to choose to be involved and not just be another place to pimp. (jay)
step 6: provide a way for registered users to maintain their entries
and feeds (clean up duplicates or entries in the wrong week, edit
comment or link typos etc.)
hmm....love to hear details. I clean up comments etc as I see fit. delete duplicates etc. might be the easiest way. (jay)
eventually, perhaps some bonus features such as the ability to
"sequence play" or "shuffle play" from a selection of users or weeks,
the ability for visitors to connect entries with tags or
relationships, a way of collecting personal favourites, etc.
yeah. Daniel Salber discussed having a way to spit out an xml file of all the data, so developers like himself can play with the videos in widgets etc. (jay)
The http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=JW_FLV_Media_Player player knows howto play RSS feeds already, you can see it in the first page of the player... :-) (zn)
